BCCI sacks Chetan Sharma-led senior national selection committee


BCCI Sacks Selection Committee: After the humiliating defeat in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, the BCCI has taken a big step. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday (18 November) sacked the senior national selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma. BCCI has posted on Twitter inviting applications for the post of national selectors.

The BCCI said in the statement that, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invites applications for the post of National Selectors (Senior Men). criteria have to be met.”

Application sought till 28 November

The statement further added that, “Any person who has been a member of any Cricket Committee (as defined in the Rules and Regulations of the BCCI) for a total of 5 years shall not be eligible to become a member of the Men’s Selection Committee. Applications should be submitted by 6 pm on November 28, 2022.”

Giving information about the criteria for the application, the BCCI said that there are 5 vacancies for the National Selector (Senior Men). The person applying should have played at least 7 test matches or 30 first class matches or 10 ODIs and 20 first class matches. Also, he must have retired from the game at least 5 years ago.

There was criticism after the T20 World Cup

In the same month, India had to face a crushing defeat at the hands of England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup held in Australia. After the team’s semi-final exit, questions were raised about their selection in the team despite many players being out of form. Apart from this, there was also a demand to dismiss the selection committee.
