This age group is most affected
Various reports show that 450 people commit suicide every day in our country, that is, 18 people die every hour. The suicide rate has reached 36.6 percent and a large number of youths are in the age group of 18 to 35 years.

For the first time, the Central Government has brought the National Suicide Prevention Policy. In this 63-page policy, the Union Health Ministry has set a target of reducing the death rate due to suicide by 10 per cent by the year 2030. Every third woman and every fourth man dies by suicide in the world in India.
how the policy will be implemented
To implement this policy, an effective monitoring system will be formed in three years. Not only this, the government has a plan that within five years, awareness will be increased by running mental health programs in all the districts. Concerted efforts will be made for the mental health of the victims of mental illness. In eight years it will be included in the syllabus and children will learn about it at the primary level itself.
Why this policy was needed
According to WHO, in the year 2019, more than seven lakh people committed suicide in the world. Among those who committed suicide, the maximum number of Indians were 36.3 percent. If we go back a few years, then in the year 1990 this rate was 25.3 percent.
According to NCRB i.e. National Crime Bureau, in the year 2021, 1.64 lakh people committed suicide. Maximum number of cases were reported in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. After the Corona epidemic, the tendency of people to commit suicide has increased further.
