Jaya Bachchan has given her opinion about choosing one between her career and family. After leaving the films for the upbringing of daughter Shweta Bachchan and son Abhishek Bachchan, she heard taunts from people, remembering which Jaya Bachchan told many things in a talk show. He also said that ‘putting your career on the back seat for your family’ is ‘not a sacrifice at all’.

Jaya Bachchan along with daughter Shweta Nanda joined the show for the finale episode of Navya’s podcast ‘What the Hell Navya’. Here he talked about the life of women in India, especially the life after marriage. Jaya recalled the time when she married Amitabh Bachchan in 1973 at the peak of her career and took a break from films. Navya talked about marriage and the sacrifices that women have to make for their families, while Jaya objected to the use of the word ‘sacrifice’.

Jaya Bachchan said, “I don’t think sacrifice is the right word to use (for married women). I would say you are putting someone else’s needs, feelings and thoughts before your own. That’s not sacrifice, I think when you do something from within, it is not a sacrifice. You know you are an educated girl, you are a smart girl, why are you saying sacrifice.”
She continued, “I remember when I stopped working and everyone said, ‘Oh, she sacrificed her career for her marriage and kids’, it wasn’t like that. I really enjoyed being a mother and a wife. Was very happy. More than what I was getting to do (in films), I enjoyed roles that are repetition of the same thing. It was not a sacrifice at all.”
Along with this, Shweta Bachchan also supported the mother’s talk and said that women need to support each other more.
