Like football, cricket will also be seen as a substitute, BCCI will experiment in domestic T20

Impact Player Rule: In sports like football, rugby, basketball and baseball, you must have often seen substitute players playing. Teams put one of their players present in the field on the bench and take another player in his place. Teams do this according to the strategy and situation of the match. It is going to be seen soon in cricket too. Although it will not be seen at the international level but only during the domestic tournament in India.

The BCCI will give teams a chance to field substitutes in domestic T20 matches from the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy starting in October. This rule has been named ‘Impact Player’. Under this, teams will be able to strategically field one of their players as a substitute. This has come to the fore in a TOI report.

This rule was introduced in cricket for the first time in 2005.
ICC has tried the substitution in cricket in the year 2005. Then within a year, this rule was removed. Now BCCI is planning to use it in domestic tournaments and bring it to IPL as well. It is being said that this rule can make the game more interesting.

What will be the rules?
Under this rule, at the time of toss, the teams will have to declare their playing-11 along with four substitutes. However, teams will be able to use only one of these four substitutes. By the 14th over of the match, the teams can send the substitute to the field. For this, the umpire or fourth umpire present on the field will have to give information at the end of the over. Any one of the captain / head coach / team manager can tell this to the umpire. The player in whose place the new player will be sent, that player will then remain out of the whole match. That is, he will not be able to be seen even while fielding.
