According to Narada Purana, there is a description of doing ‘Mitra Vrat’ for Lord Surya on this day. It is mentioned in the Puranas that Surya named Mitra was born from the womb of Rishi Kashyapa and Aditi. That’s why the friendly form of Sun is worshiped on Nanda Saptami.
