Opening will be a matter of concern for Laxman and Hardik, Suryakumar may get the responsibility

IND vs NZ: Indian team’s tour of New Zealand is starting from 18th November. The tour is to begin with a three-match T20 series for which Hardik Pandya has been made the captain of the team. Most of the inexperienced players have been rested for this series and youngsters have got opportunities. It may be difficult for Hardik and coach VVS Laxman to form the opening pair in the team that India has selected for the series.

Why would opening be a concern?

In the team that has been selected for this series, there are only two such batsmen who have been opening continuously in T20. Ishaan Kishan and Shubman Gill have good opening experience, but there is no guarantee that Gill will debut. Leaving these batsmen, there is a lack of batsmen with good opening experience in the team. Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav have opened on a few occasions, but cannot be used every time.

Will Suryakumar get the responsibility?

Suryakumar Yadav has made it clear that he has the ability to bat at any position. If there are good batsmen for the middle order in the current team, then Suryakumar can get a promotion. Along with Kishan, Suryakumar can be entrusted with the responsibility of starting the innings. If this happens then Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant can handle the team in the middle order. In the lower order, Captain Hardik himself can be seen in the role of finisher. Suryakumar can also be given a chance because such batsmen cannot be fielded from both ends in the opening who have not played international cricket for a long time.
