Pat Cummins reacted to withdrawing from IPL 2023, told why he left the tournament

Pat Cummins KKR IPL 2023: With a packed cricket calendar featuring international matches and various franchise T20 leagues, players have started prioritizing the matches they want to attend. Australia is going to play a lot of matches in the next 12 months. This is the reason why Test captain Pat Cummins pulled out of IPL 2023, where he last represented Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2022 season of the tournament.

He said, “Australia is going to play really a lot of cricket in the next 12 months. That’s why I decided to withdraw from IPL 2023. We have got 15 Test matches, hopefully we will reach the Test World Championship final.”

“There are a lot of ODIs, then the ODI World Cup, I don’t get much break if I play, so try and spend some time at home,” Cummins said on SEN 1170 The Run Home show.

Cummins is now Australia’s ODI captain as well as Test, which means his workload will increase over the next 12 months. After the home (ODI) series against England, Test series against the West Indies and South Africa, Australia will play four Tests in India in February and March next year.

After the IPL is held from late March to May, Australia will play a five-match Ashes Test series in England and later return to India for the ODI World Cup in September-October.

If Australia make it to the final of the World Test Championship to be held at The Oval in June 2023, one more match will be added to their schedule. “In the past I have made this decision to stay physically fresh, to be mentally strong while making decisions as a captain.”

Cummins will lead Australia for the first time as their ODI captain in the upcoming three-match series against England starting at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday.
