By that we mean to include food from different color families in your diet. There are many types of fruits and vegetables available in the market, which have different colors. They not only make our plate colourful, but if they are consumed properly then our life will also become colourful. Actually, food of every color plays an important role in giving a special phytochemical to our body. Phytochemicals are present in all the foods from which they get their colour. This phytochemicals is nothing but a pigment which is an antioxidant. Let us know what role these vegetables of each color play in meeting the nutritional needs of our body.
green colour: We all know how beneficial green vegetables are for our health and what makes them beneficial is the potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, vitamins B, C, E and K present in them. The pigment chlorophyll found in green vegetables helps in neutralizing free radicals and flushing out toxins from the body.
yellow: Yellow colored fruits and vegetables are mood boosters for you. It is very beneficial for your skin, eyes, bones and hair. Yellow colored foods get this color from vitamin C and collagen which is a protein made of amino acids and has anti aging properties. The bioflavonoids and carotene present in it help fight cancer, which is why yellow fruits like mango, banana and pineapple should be included in your diet if your body wants strong glowing skin and healthy hair.
orange: Orange colored fruits increase your eyesight, immunity of the body. If you want to increase eyesight or immunity, then you should eat a lot of orange colored foods. Orange foods contain beta-carotene, which is a form of vitamin A and acts as an antioxidant. Nothing can improve your eyesight better than vitamin A.
purple: Although it is rarely found in colored foods in the market, but blue berries, black grapes, brinjals and purple cabbage are rich in health-promoting phytochemicals. The properties present in it help in fighting heart diseases and Alzheimer’s.
red: The red color of apples, watermelons, strawberries, tomatoes and pomegranates is given to them by lycopene, a phytochemical with strong antioxidant properties. Lycopene is known to have properties to fight heart diseases cancer and even sunburn. Fruits like apple must be included in your diet, it is a rich source of fiber which helps in maintaining intestinal health.
White: Even though fruits or vegetables are less available in white color, but whatever you get, there is no shortage of nutrients in them. White foods like mushrooms, turnips, chickpeas, potatoes are rich in nutrients. Contain, which improve blood pressure. Helps to reduce the level of LDH control.
